Peavine Cellars
History
Peavine Cellars sits just below Peavine Mountain in North Reno. It is on 1.25 acres and was first established in 2015 with 25 Cab Sauv planted below the house. Since then the vineyard has been expanded and a wine cellar was built in the detached garage. Dave and son Daniel have been making wine since 2010, mostly reds.
Vineyards
The small vineyard was started with Cab Sauv and has been expanded with more cab, a German clone of Riesling (the owners spent almost 4 years in Germany and grew to love Riesling), Gruner Veltliner, and Marquette. Growing wine in Nevada is challenging with the late spring freezes and because the European varietals are more prone to crown gall in the colder climate.
Wines
The wine cellar is small at about 70 sf, but it is climate control and works well for a few barrels, some carboys, and cases of finished wine. Peavine cellars has won homemade wine awards for its Cabs, Merlots, and Blends. The Merlot and Zinfandel blends always seem to do best in competition .
